Vastrapur police nab trio who stole jewellery worth ₹4 lakh posing as house cleaners

In a swift detection within hours of the complaint, the Vastrapur police in Ahmedabad arrested three men who allegedly posed as house cleaners and fled with gold jewellery worth over ₹4 lakh from a Thaltej apartment on Tuesday.
The accused, all residents of Rajasthan temporarily living in Vastrapur, were nabbed within hours after the crime was reported. The police recovered gold ornaments and other valuables worth ₹4.25 lakh from their possession.
The arrested have been identified as Lokesh Nathubhai Kir, Sunil Dhanjibhai Kir, and Arjun Shankarlal Kir, all aged between 20 and 25. Police said the trio, originally from villages in Rajasthan’s Salumber and Banswara districts, were working as casual labourers in Ahmedabad and living near the Government Chavdi area, opposite Alpha mall in Vastrapur.
As per the FIR lodged by Jayaben Patel, a resident of Aditya Apartment near SAL Hospital in Thaltej, three men claiming to be from 'G J Home Cleaning' arrived at her flat around 10.30 am on Monday to carry out cleaning work. Patel and her husband Bharatbhai, both senior citizens, were seated in another room while the trio cleaned the house.
Around 12.30 pm, the men told the couple they were stepping out for lunch but never returned. Later, when Jayaben checked the cupboard in the other room, she found her blue purse missing jewellery items: a pair of gold earrings, a bracelet, a bangle, and a pendant, collectively valued around ₹4 lakh. Following her complaint, the Vastrapur police registered an FIR under Sections BNS.
By evening, the Vastrapur Surveillance Squad successfully tracked down and detained all three men from the Vastrapur area. During interrogation, the accused confessed to the theft, admitting that they had targeted the flat after posing as cleaners and stealing gold jewellery while the occupants were distracted. The total recovery is estimated at ₹4.25 lakh.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the trio had recently started working as casual labourers and had planned to carry out thefts by posing as cleaners in residential areas. Police suspect they may be involved in similar crimes across the city. Further investigation is underway.
