The redevelopment of Vastrapur Lake in Ahmedabad, which was expected to be completed in just six months, has stretched to 20 months and is now likely to continue until January 2026.

The lake, located in the Bodakdev ward, has been closed to visitors since February 2024 for redevelopment work. Authorities had initially shut down the lake for six months, but repeated design changes and an expanded scope of work have led to major delays.

The project was first approved in December 2023 with a budget of ₹5.15 crore, which was later revised to ₹8.2 crore in August 2024.

The lake had suffered major damage in July 2022 after heavy rains caused several sinkholes and breaches in the embankment. For nearly a year and a half afterward, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) carried out minor repairs and walkway leveling before launching full-scale redevelopment.
