Valsad police nabs four in fake passport nexus

A total of four suspects have been nabbed by Valsad police in the case of forging documents of the relatives of Daman residents to get an Indian passport, and then in turn, get a Portuguese passport.

The Valsad special operation group (SOG) has decoded a nexus of issuing Portuguese passports through fake documents. The police seized a total of 10 duplicate passports.

Accused Mohammed Sahil Sarfuddin Sheikh, a 37-year-old was caught with a transparent file of forged documents on a road in Valsad. The documents were issued with the help of another accused, Saakib Makshud Kaniyat and owns an agency called Paradise Passport Service in Valsad.

The investigation revealed that Sheikh forged his documents with a different name, ‘Sohil Imran Sheikh’, and got a duplicate passport in 2021, issued from gram panchayat Jujwa in Valsad. The issued passport was based on duplicate proof of birth certificates and other documents.

The police seized Sheikh’s mobile phone, Aadhar card, PAN card, and driving licence for further investigation.

Saakib’s fake passport game

Later, the orchestrator of the case, Mohammed Saakib, alias Tom Maksud, was arrested by the police on Sept 11, and he confessed that 10 more Indian passports were made in order to obtain Portuguese passports by forging the personal details. He was in police custody on remand for eight days, and a total of five duplicate passports were seized from him.

Another accused Ashiyabibi Moin Sheikh was arrested on Sept 18 for getting a duplicate passport in the name of ‘Ashiyabibi Kasmubai’ as a fake resident of Daman. Another accused, Burhan Suleman Tailor, was arrested on Sept 19 and got a duplicate passport by the name of ‘Burhan Imran Sheikh’.
