Valsad court sentences two to 7-year jail in exam fraud

Updated: Sep 25th, 2024

A Valsad court has sentenced a 27-year-old man and 19-year-old student to seven years in prison for impersonating a student during a 10th-grade mathematics exam at Kusum School.

The case dates back to July 13, 2019, when the impersonator, identified as Suresh Bhoya, was caught appearing for 19-year-old Pinkal Patel in the exam.

The incident came to light when an invigilator noticed discrepancies between the signature on Patel’s hall ticket and the signature of the individual in the examination hall. This prompted the principal and zonal officer to investigate further. And the truth was revealed.

Upon verification, it was confirmed that Bhoya was not the student he claimed to be. He admitted to taking the exam on behalf of his friend, Pinkal Patel, who is enrolled at Dadra School in Dadra Nagar Haveli.

Following this revelation, a formal complaint was lodged with the Valsad police, leading to an investigation.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Vinay Kumar subsequently ruled against Bhoya and Patel, imposing a fine of ₹30,000 along with the seven-year prison sentence.
