The staff of Vadodara's Gotri medical college, Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society (GMERS) Medical College, allegedly transfused the wrong blood to a Tuberculosis (TB) patient, as per reports. Following the incident, an inquiry committee was formed and will probe allegations of medical negligence by the nursing staff.

The Medical Superintendent of GMERS, Dr Anup Chandani, reportedly said that the hospital staff administered blood intended for another patient, mistakenly given to the TB patient as both patients were awaiting blood transfusion at the same time. Now, the committee has been formed to investigate the incident.

Chanadani also said that blood was arranged for both patients and it was properly cross-checked before being issued from the blood bank. As per the protocol, blood is brought from the refrigerator, kept at room temperature before transfusion. However, during this process, an error occurred.

To avoid any possibility of a blood reaction, the hospital administered prophylactic treatment, as per reports, in which the patient was shifted to ICU and was treated as precaution. The patient is stable after 24 hours and blood samples have been sent to the laboratory to check for any transfusion- related reactions , Chandani added.
