Vadodara Harni Lake case: SIT investigation concludes with 2,819-page chargesheet

Exactly two months ago, a major boat capsizing incident hit the headlines across the state and the nation, involving the deaths of 14 innocent lives, including 12 children.

Vadodara police commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut filed a 2,819-page chargesheet on Mar 15 within 58 days of the incident.

The chargesheet prepared by the committee includes 433 statements of witnesses, buoyancy tests of the boat, reports from forensic examinations, post-mortem reports, and evidence of modern equipment used for measuring the depth of the lake.

In the FIR filed in the boat capsizing case, there were the names of 18 accused. Although the corporation had given the contract, they did not have the full names and addresses of the accused.

Among them, the police investigation revealed that one of the accused, named Hitesh Kotia, has been deceased. The SIT arrested a total of 20 accused, who are currently in jail.

The chargesheet has been filed against 20 accused arrested in the case, which includes partners of the contractor company Kotia Projects, sub-contractors, and the operators of the boat.

In a tragic incident, a boat capsized in the Harni Lake in Vadodara on Jan 18. The incident claimed the lives of two teachers and 12 children from New Sunrise School who went boating in Harni Lake during their picnic.

Following the incident, a special investigation team (SIT) was formed, led by additional commissioner Manoj Ninama, under the supervision of Panna Momaya and Yuvrajsinh Jadeja.
