Vadodara Drainage Repair Near Race Course Tower Costs ₹23.33 Lakh, 26% Above Estimate

The Vadodara Municipal Corporation has incurred ₹23.33 lakh on repairing a ruptured drainage line near Race Course Tower, with the final cost around 26% higher than the original estimate of ₹18.52 lakh.

The drainage line rupture was reported on the road connecting Chakli Circle and Natubhai Circle in Ward 11 of Vadodara Municipal Corporation. The repair was taken up as an urgent work under Section 67(3)(c) of the (Gujarat Provincial Municipal Corporations) GPMC Act.

The work was assigned to contractor Elite Engineers, which carried out the repair of the damaged drainage line.

₹4.81 Lakh Difference

The repair was undertaken on an immediate basis because of the rupture in the drainage line near Race Course Tower. The use of the emergency-work provision allowed the corporation to proceed with the repair without following the process normally associated with regular works.

This resulted in an additional cost of ₹4.81 lakh over the estimate. The final amount works out to roughly 26% above the estimated cost.

Part of Wider Drainage Repair Spending

The expenditure comes amid other drainage repair works being undertaken by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation under emergency provisions. Four separate drainage-related works in different parts of the city had estimates totalling around ₹16.83 lakh, while contractors had agreed to carry them out for about ₹21.28 lakh roughly ₹4.45 lakh above the combined estimates. Those works included a broken gate valve, drainage-line ruptures and pressure-line leakages. 

In July 2026 the corporation had spent more than ₹69.54 lakh on repairing two drainage-line ruptures. Both works were undertaken under the Commissioner's powers under Section 67(3)(c) of the GPMC Act. One involved laying a 23.60-metre new bypass line near Lalapura village on Navayard Road, while another involved drainage repairs and associated restoration work in Tulsivadi, Karelibaug.
