Four tourists from Gujarat were killed after an Innova car carrying seven passengers fell into the Bhagirathi River in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, on Thursday morning. The accident took place near Gangnani on the Gangotri National Highway. Four bodies have been recovered so far, while one person was seriously injured and two others are missing. Rescue teams are searching for the missing passengers.
According to initial reports, all seven passengers were residents of the Sabarmati area in Gujarat. They were travelling from Uttarkashi towards Gangotri Dham for a pilgrimage when the accident took place. The car reportedly lost control and fell into a deep gorge before landing in the fast-flowing river.
Rescue Operation Underway
The accident took place near Garamkund, around 20 metres ahead towards Dabrani from Gangnani. After receiving information about the incident, local police, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and emergency medical teams rushed to the spot. Rescue workers started searching along the riverbank and managed to recover four bodies.
One passenger was found seriously injured and was rescued from the accident site. The injured person is being provided medical assistance. However, two passengers are still missing, and rescue teams are searching for them in the river.
NDRF Team Joins Search Operation
Considering the seriousness of the accident, a 27-member team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was also sent from Manera to help with the rescue operation. SDRF teams, water police and trained divers are working together to find the missing passengers. The strong water current is making the search operation difficult.
The district administration has placed medical teams and the disaster management centre on high alert. Officials are monitoring the rescue operation and making arrangements to provide immediate medical help to anyone found alive. The administration is also working to contact the families of the passengers in Gujarat.
Meanwhile, the police have started an investigation to find out how the car lost control and fell into the river. The exact cause of the accident is not yet known. The search operation is continuing as authorities try to locate the two missing passengers.
