Urban Development Department intensifies action to curb air pollution in Gujarat cities

2,600+ construction sites inspected across 17 municipal corporations in three days

The Urban Development Department has launched a large-scale inspection drive targeting construction sites one of the major contributors to dust pollution in Gujarat’s urban areas.

In just three days, more than 2,600 construction sites across 17 municipal corporations were inspected, and 541 sites were penalised for violations.

According to officials, municipal corporations were instructed to immediately begin inspections of all active construction sites within their limits. Out of a total 2,961 sites, 2,600+ have already been inspected.

This includes 1,303 of 1,563 sites in the eight old municipal corporations and 1,300 of 1,398 sites in the nine newly formed municipal corporations. Under the Regional Commissioner’s jurisdiction, inspections were completed at all 771 sites.

During the inspections, several sites were found violating dust-control norms. A total of 506 sites in the old municipal corporations were fined ₹122.82 lakh, while 35 sites in the new municipal corporations were fined ₹1.058 lakh across the state.
