A major protest broke out at a private nursing college in Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati area on Thursday, with students alleging irregular fee collection and lack of basic facilities.

Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), along with students of Medilink Nursing College, staged a demonstration on the campus, accusing the management of charging hostel fees despite not providing accommodation.

As per the students, they were informed at the time of admission that hostel facilities were limited, but were assured accommodation would be arranged. However, they were later housed in private paying guest (PG) facilities while still being charged hostel fees, they alleged.

Students further claimed that an additional monthly charge of ₹4,000 was being collected, and fees had also been taken for transportation for internships, which was allegedly not adequately provided.

The protesters also alleged that despite paying for books and study materials, they were neither given proper receipts nor supplied with the required materials.

Tensions escalated as ABVP members raised slogans, put up posters on the campus and disrupted electricity supply during the protest. The situation turned confrontational after the college management reportedly attempted to shut the premises, prompting agitators to force entry.

ABVP alleged that the college was collecting large sums of money from students through unfair means and demanded immediate redressal of grievances. Following the protest, the college management assured that the issues would be addressed through discussions, sources said.
