Unseasonal rains wreak havoc in Amreli Khambha and Jafrabad submerged several villages cut off

Unseasonal rains have unleashed chaos across Gujarat over the past few days, with Amreli district bearing the brunt. Continuous heavy showers for nearly a week have disrupted normal life, submerging large parts of the region. Khambha and Jafrabad talukas are among the worst affected.

Khambha reels under flood-like situation

In the Khambha-Gir region, heavy overnight rainfall led to a flood-like situation in several villages. Torrents of rain lashed Pipalva, Umariya, Lasa, and Tataniya, leaving farmlands waterlogged and crops destroyed. Thunderstorms and lightning added to the farmers’ distress.

Villages such as Dadhiyali, Bhavardi, and Sarakadiya Divan were also inundated, with rainwater flooding the main roads — turning them into streams.

Homes flooded, motorcycle swept away in Jafrabad

Jafrabad taluka, too, witnessed widespread damage. Continuous heavy rain battered villages including Mansa, Pati, Hemal, Lor, and Fasariya.

The situation was most severe in Mota Mansa village, where water entered residential houses, damaging household items and property. In the local market, the water flow was so intense that a motorcycle was swept away.

Authorities open dam gates, issue high alert

The relentless downpour has caused a surge in the district’s reservoirs. With the Raydi Dam in Khambha overflowing, two gates have been opened by two feet each. Meanwhile, the Dhatarvadi River saw heavy inflows of around 5,400 cusecs, forcing officials to open all ten gates of Dhatarvadi Dam-2.

Authorities have placed low-lying villages downstream of the Raydi Dam — including Mota and Nana Barman, Chotra, and Mithapur — as well as settlements along the Dhatarvadi riverbank on high alert. Residents have been strictly warned against venturing near riverbeds as the administration continues to monitor the situation closely.
