Unseasonal rains break 10-year record in Gujarat with over three inches of rain in October

Due to a depression formed over the Arabian Sea, Gujarat continues to experience unseasonal rainfall, creating a difficult situation for farmers.

This October, Gujarat has already received an average of 3.30 inches of rainfall, the highest in the last 10 years. Previously, higher-than-usual rainfall in October was recorded only in 2016, 2022, and 2024.
Last year, the state recorded an average of 2 inches of rainfall in October. So far this season, Gujarat has received 125% of the normal rainfall, with Kutch recording the highest at 150%, followed by South Gujarat at 131%.
Rainfall was reported in 188 talukas across the state, with Mahuva in Bhavnagar district recording the highest rainfall at 3.25 inches on Thursday. The Meteorological Department has forecast rain for the next three days as well.

A total of 35 talukas received more than one inch of rainfall on Thursday. Among them, Hansot in Bharuch recorded 2.75 inches, Talaja in Bhavnagar received 2.60 inches, Subir in Dang got 2.50 inches, Mahuva in Surat recorded 2.35 inches, and Gandhinagar received 2.10 inches.
The weather department predicts that the rainy conditions are likely to continue for the next few days.
According to the forecast, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Daman, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, and Gir Somnath are expected to receive rainfall on Friday.
On Saturday, a yellow alert was issued for heavy rainfall in Bharuch, Surat, Amreli, and Bhavnagar. Other regions may experience light to moderate rain.
