Unseasonal rain batters Gujarat: Up to 4 inches recorded, more showers expected in the coming days

A cyclonic circulation has brought a sudden shift in Gujarat’s weather, triggering unseasonal rainfall across 25 talukas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for the next five days, heightening concerns among farmers already worried about their standing crops.
From the early hours of Saturday, several districts witnessed a change in weather conditions as thunderstorms and rain swept through many regions.
Navsari recorded the highest rainfall at 4 inches, followed by 1.75 inches in Umargam (Valsad) and around 1.5 inches in Patan-Veraval (Gir Somnath).
The unseasonal showers in Saurashtra have raised concerns among farmers in Amreli and Veraval. With a depression now active over the Arabian Sea, the IMD has predicted heavy rainfall over the next four days. Coastal districts have been placed under caution, with ports hoisting danger signal no 3.
Impact on farmers
Parts of Saurashtra, including the Ghari and Khambha regions of Amreli, have experienced light to moderate unseasonal rainfall. In Khambha town, light showers were reported, while villages like Trambakpur and Govindpur in Ghari taluka received drizzle that brought a noticeable drop in temperature.
Several rural areas in Khambha taluka—such as Diwana Sarakdiya, Nanudi, and Dadhiyali—also reported rain. Farmers have expressed concern over potential damage to standing crops like groundnut, cotton, and pigeon pea.
With the depression persisting over the Arabian Sea, the IMD has warned of heavy rain along Gujarat’s coastal belt, Saurashtra, and south Gujarat. The sea is expected to turn rough, posing hazardous conditions for coastal communities and fishermen.
