Part of under-construction railway overbridge collapses near Adas, no injuries reported

A major portion of an under-construction railway overbridge near Adas village in Gujarat’s Anand district collapsed on Saturday, raising fresh concerns over the quality and safety of infrastructure projects.
The incident occurred at railway crossing number 250 between Vadod and Adas railway stations, where a railway overbridge is being constructed by the Vadodara Gati Shakti Unit.
According to preliminary information, the entire span between two main pillars suddenly gave way and crashed to the ground.
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported as no workers or vehicles were present beneath the structure when the collapse occurred.
The bridge was being built using pre-stressed girder technology, a widely used modern construction method for railway overbridges. The collapsed section reportedly consisted of a girder placed on top of pier caps—the reinforced structural components designed to transfer the bridge's load to the supporting pillars.
The exact cause of the collapse is yet to be determined. Following the incident, officials from the railway administration, police, and local authorities rushed to the site and began an assessment of the damage. Technical teams are expected to investigate the circumstances that led to the failure of the structure.
The collapse also drew a large number of residents from Adas village to the site. The project has been under construction for some time and is expected to serve as a key connectivity link in the area once completed.
Authorities have initiated an inquiry into the incident, and further details are expected after the completion of the technical investigation.
