Two TRB jawans held for extorting ₹6 lakh from man near Dastan Circle

The Nikol police on Saturday arrested two men, including a Traffic Reserve Battalion (TRB) jawan, for allegedly extorting ₹5.87 lakh from a man near Dastan Circle by threatening and forcibly withdrawing the money both in cash and online.
According to the FIR registered at Nikol police station, the accused, identified as Rajeshbhai Patni(31) and Vishalbhai Patni (26), both residents of Ahmedabad, forcibly took ₹1 lakh in cash from the complainant and further transferred ₹4.87 lakh through net banking and Google Pay, totalling ₹5.87 lakh.
Police said Rajesh and Vishal, both serving as TRB jawans, allegedly misused their position to intimidate the victim and extort money from the victim. The duo was arrested following an investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Ahmedabad City.
During the probe, the complainant identified both accused during an identification parade conducted before the Executive Magistrate on October 11. The two men, wearing white shirts and blue trousers at the time of the offence, were positively recognised by the complainant.
Both were arrested around 8.45 pm on Saturday and produced before a magistrate’s court, which granted four days’ police remand for further investigation.
Police officials said efforts are underway to trace other individuals suspected to be involved in the extortion racket.
