Two pose as cops, extort ₹4,500 from man near Ramol BRTS

A 32-year-old man was allegedly abducted, assaulted and extorted by two unidentified men posing as police officers near the Ahmedabad-Vadodara Express Highway BRTS stop in Ramol on Sunday evening. Ramol police have registered an FIR for criminal intimidation, impersonation and extortion.
Paras Motiram Meena, a resident of Krishnanagar who works at a shop in Pragati Estate, in his comlaint stated that the incident occurred around 7.30 pm on December 7. Meena said he had gone to the BRTS bus stop after seeing off his female friend, when two men approached him on a moped.
The men allegedly told him they had seen whom he was meeting and falsely claimed to be policemen. They threatened to implicate him in a false case and insisted he accompany them to the police station. “One of them grabbed my shirt collar and forced me onto their moped,” Meena stated in the FIR.
They then took him to Shariba Garden on Ramol-Surelia Road, where they allegedly demanded ₹50,000 to “settle the matter” and avoid taking him to the police station. When Meena told them he did not have such an amount, the men allegedly abused him and slapped him two to three times.
Fearing further assault, Meena handed over ₹4,500, the cash he had with him. The two men then fled.
The complainant stated that he was too frightened to approach the police immediately. He came forward the next day, saying the men “did not look like policemen” and had threatened, assaulted and robbed him.
Ramol police have registered a case against the unidentified duo under sections related to impersonation, intimidation, assault and extortion. CCTV footage from the area is being examined to identify the accused, officials said.
Investigation is under way.
