Becharaji has regained passenger train connectivity after a gap of nearly nine years, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagging off two new train services in Gujarat on Friday — the Sabarmati-Becharaji-Mehsana MEMU and the Sabarmati-Varanasi Daily Express.
The MEMU service will benefit devotees visiting the Bahucharaji temple, employees of the Maruti Suzuki plant in Hansalpur and other industrial units, as well as daily commuters, students, farmers and small traders.
The second service will provide direct rail connectivity between Gujarat and Varanasi, improving long-distance travel links across Gujarat, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
Becharaji Regains Rail Connectivity After Gauge Conversion
According to an Ahmedabad railway division official, the route has historical significance, with railway services in the region dating back to 1908, during the rule of the princely state of Baroda.
Passenger services on the metre-gauge line were discontinued during its conversion to broad gauge. Although freight trains began operating after the conversion was completed, passenger services did not resume.
The launch of the new MEMU train restores passenger connectivity to the route after nearly nine years.
Industrial Workers, Devotees to Benefit
The Sabarmati-Becharaji-Mehsana MEMU will improve connectivity between Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, Kalol, Kadi, Katosan Road, Chanasma, Ranuj, Mehsana and Becharaji.
The service is expected to make daily commuting easier for employees working in the Becharaji and Hansalpur industrial areas. Devotees travelling to the Bahucharaji temple will also benefit from the service.
Students, small traders, farmers and other local passengers are expected to gain from the additional transport option. The train timings have been planned to cater to both daily commuters and temple visitors.
Sabarmati-Becharaji Ticket Priced at ₹25
The railway has set the fare from Sabarmati at ₹25 for Becharaji, ₹30 for Ranuj and ₹35 for Mehsana.
A monthly season ticket between Sabarmati and Becharaji will cost ₹355, while students can obtain the pass for ₹180.
Small traders, farmers and vendors transporting up to 60 kg of goods, including milk and vegetables, will be able to purchase a monthly season ticket for ₹535.
Daily Express to Connect Sabarmati with Varanasi
The second new service, the Sabarmati-Varanasi Daily Express, will strengthen long-distance rail connectivity between Gujarat, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
The train will stop at Mehsana, Palanpur, Abu Road, Falna, Marwar Junction, Beawar, Ajmer, Kishangarh, Jaipur, Gandhinagar Jaipur, Bandikui, Mandawar Mahwa Road, Kherli, Nadbai, Bharatpur, Idgah Agra Junction, Tundla Junction, Govindpuri, Subedarganj and Mirzapur.
The service will provide passengers from Gujarat and Rajasthan with direct rail access to Varanasi, benefiting devotees visiting the Kashi Vishwanath temple, along with traders, students and working professionals.
The two new services are expected to support religious tourism, industrial commuting and trade across the three states.
