Two killed after dumper truck rams bike on Gota bridge, traffic diverted

Two persons — a motorcyclist and his pillion rider — were killed on the spot after a dumper truck collided with their two-wheeler on the Gota bridge on Wednesday, police said.
According to officials, the accident occurred during peak hours when the heavy vehicle allegedly rammed into the motorcycle, resulting in fatal injuries to both occupants. Their identities were yet to be established at the time of filing this report.
Following the incident, traffic movement on the Gota bridge was temporarily diverted to allow police and emergency teams to clear the site and initiate a preliminary investigation. The diversion triggered heavy congestion along the stretch and on adjoining roads, with commuters facing significant delays.
Police personnel rushed to the spot and shifted the bodies for post-mortem examination. Efforts are under way to trace the dumper driver and ascertain the exact cause of the crash.
Officials said further action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
According to officials from Bodakdev police station, the accident occurred on the descending stretch of the bridge towards Vaishnodevi Circle. The truck, bearing registration number GJ-24 X 5130, was allegedly being driven by Vimal Bhimsing Dodiya (26), a resident of Fatepura in Dahod district.
The victims have been identified as Narpatbhai Danfi (27), the rider, who was residing at PG accommodation in Kochrab, Paldi and is originally from Tharad, and Sushilkumar Prasad, the pillion rider, a native of Ballabhgarh in Uttar Pradesh currently residing in Samarapura Rajiv Colony.
Police said the truck collided with the motorcycle, resulting in fatal injuries to both riders, who died on the spot.
