The administrative landscape in Gujarat is set to witness a shift as two senior IAS officers, Manish Bhardwaj and Vijay Nehra, have received central deputation postings, according to official notifications shared on Sept 16.

IAS Manish Bhardwaj, who previously held the role of municipal commissioner in Vadodara and currently serves as the principal secretary for Narmada, along with his responsibilities as the CEO of the Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority, is slated to assume the position of deputy director general (DDG) at the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).

The appointment falls under the ministry of electronics and information technology and carries a tenure of five years or until further directives are issued.

Similarly, Vijay Nehra, who serves as the secretary for the science and technology department and holds the CEO position at the Dholera SIR Authority, has been designated as the senior directing staff (CS) at the National Defence College (NDC). The role aligns with the ministry of defence and spans a five-year term, subject to potential extensions as necessitated.

While these transitions signify career advancements for the two ‘distinguished’ officers, it is anticipated that their central deputation may trigger a minor reorganisation within the state bureaucracy.
