Two groups clash in Sabarkantha: 20 arrested, 60 named in FIR in stone-pelting, arson

Festivities were marred by a violent clash between two groups in Majara village of Sabarkantha’s Prantij late on Friday night. The groups pelted stones and damaged vehicles.
The violent clash broke out between two groups over a religious event at Bhairavnath Temple in the evening. What started as a minor dispute escalated into stone-throwing and attacks.
Police brought the situation under control by detaining around 20 people, while over 60 people have been named in a complaint.
The attackers targeted people from a single community and attacked their vehicles and residential houses. In this assault, more than 96 vehicles were damaged, including 26 cars, 51 bikes, 6 multi-purpose passenger vehicles, and 3 tractors, with widespread arson and vandalism.
As per reports, around 10 houses were also damaged, resulting in losses worth crores of rupees.
Currently, police has been deployed in the village to maintain peace. The police have registered cases against the antisocial elements involved in the vandalism and violence, and have initiated arrest proceedings based on CCTV footage. A flag march was also conducted by the police to restore peace in the village.
