The restoration of Subhash Bridge in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad has moved a step forward, with two companies expressing interest in undertaking the demolition and reconstruction works.

The bridge has remained closed to all vehicular traffic since December 4, 2025, after cracks were detected in its structure. The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) subsequently initiated a tender process to dismantle the existing superstructure, restore the bridge and construct additional new bridges on either side.

According to official sources, one of the bidders, S.P. Singla, was disqualified for failing to submit the required hard copy of documents.

With its exclusion, DR Agarwal, the firm associated with the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, is now strongly tipped to receive the work order.

Civic authorities had earlier floated a tender for the project, which attracted a single bid and was followed by a re-tendering process. Although the superstructure was initially scheduled for removal in February, following the bridge’s closure in December, the process was delayed due to the extended tender procedure.

Sources said DR Agarwal quoted ₹236 crore for the project against a base price of ₹232.80 crore — approximately 1.37% higher than the estimated cost. Given the marginal difference, officials indicated that the corporation is likely to proceed with awarding the contract without further delay in order to expedite the restoration works.
