In a major road safety lapse on the Bavla-Changodar stretch of NH47, a truck carrying oxygen cylinders caught fire on the evening of Jan 29.

Two truck workers lost their lives, whereas four people, including children, were injured in the incident.

For reasons that are unknown so far, an oxygen cylinder exploded in the truck, which led to a fire in the whole truck near Sari village.

The driver managed to come out of the truck safely, but two workers, including Deepak Paswan and Mahesh Paswan (residents of Bihar), seated in the cabin, died in the incident.

As the exploded oxygen cylinders scattered on the roads, they injured pedestrians nearby, including a nine-year-old girl. The injured were shifted to Bavla Hospital.

More blasts were averted by the fire brigade team that reached the spot on time.

The accident caused heavy traffic jams and chaos on the highway stretch.

The Changodar police have initiated an investigation regarding the blast.
