The Ahmedabad Crime Branch on Wednesday arrested a 42-year-old man from Bapunagar after he was allegedly found carrying two country-made pistols and four live cartridges without a licence. The seized arms, valued at ₹16,600, were recovered from his possession during a patrol-based operation.

The Crime Branch team acting on a tip-off intercepted Mohammad Sikandar Abdul Karim Bhadbhunja, also known as Bhurji, near Manilal’s Chali, close to Rahmani Masjid and Hassan Shaheed Dargah, around 4.15 pm.

Police said they had received specific intelligence that Sikandar, a resident of Manilal’s Chali, was moving through the area with illegal weapons. He was put under surveillance near the densely populated locality.

During the watch, the accused dressed in a black full-sleeved shirt and white trousers was seen carrying a heavy red cloth bag. As he approached, the team surrounded him and took him into custody.

Two pistols found — one concealed in clothing, one inside bag

Upon frisking, officers found:

  • One country-made pistol in the pocket of his trousers
  • Four live cartridges in his shirt pocket
  • Another country-made pistol inside the red cloth bag

Police said the first pistol had a 22-cm barrel with wooden grips and was valued at ₹5,000. The second weapon, painted silver and wrapped with cloth around the handle, had a 31-cm barrel and was valued at ₹10,000.

Of the four live cartridges seized, one bore the marking KF 8 MM, while the remaining three were branded Chetak–12, each valued at ₹500. The weapons and ammunition were sealed on the spot.

Accused claims weapons bought from Uttar Pradesh

During questioning, Sikandar allegedly told officers that the pistols and cartridges had been purchased from a person in Uttar Pradesh. Police believe the weapons may have been intended for criminal activities, although the exact motive is under investigation.

A case has been registered under Arms Act and Gujarat Police Act. The Crime Branch sought a seven-day remand, of which the court has granted two days, till 27 November 2025, for custodial interrogation.

Police said they will now focus on tracing the Uttar Pradesh supplier and verifying whether the seized firearms are linked to any past offences.
