Two Bangladeshis held at Ahmedabad airport with fraudulently obtained Indian passports

Immigration authorities at Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Friday detained two Bangladeshi nationals in separate incidents after both were allegedly found travelling on fraudulently obtained Indian passports and carrying forged identity documents. The detentions took place during immigration checks for SpiceJet flight SG-015, scheduled to depart for Dubai on November 28.

According to two First Information Reports filed by the Bureau of Immigration with the SVPI Airport police station, both passengers were intercepted after their profiles appeared suspicious and their responses raised doubts during routine questioning by Assistant Immigration Officer Surendra Firoda.

In the first case, a passenger identifying himself as Mithun Biswas was unable to provide basic biographical information when asked. During sustained questioning, he allegedly admitted that his real name is Mithun Bala, a resident of Kalinagar village in Gopalganj district, Bangladesh. Bala told officials that he had illegally entered India in 2018 through an unknown agent and had since been living under the assumed identity of Biswas.

Bala had fraudulently obtained an Aadhaar card, a PAN card and an Indian passport using forged credentials. He was handed over to the police along with the seized passport, boarding pass, identity cards, and copies of Bangladeshi documents belonging to him and his parents.

In the second incident, another passenger who presented himself as Ridoy Bhadra, a resident of Nadia district in West Bengal, was also found to have provided inconsistent information during questioning. Officials said the man later confessed that his real name is Jayant Biswas, originally from Ramchandrapur in Magura Sadar, Bangladesh. He allegedly told immigration officials that he had illegally entered India in 2017, adopted the false identity of Bhadra, and used forged documents, including an Aadhaar card, voter ID and an Indian passport to travel.

Immigration authorities seized the forged documents, including the passport issued from the Regional Passport Office in Kolkata, Aadhaar and voter ID cards, and copies of Bangladeshi identity papers. A written confession was also provided.

In both cases, the Bureau of Immigration has requested the police to initiate detailed investigations to identify the agents who allegedly helped the accused procure fake identity documents and Indian passports. Officials have also sought legal action against the two men for illegal entry into India, impersonation and the use of fraudulently obtained Indian documents.

The SVPI Airport police have registered separate cases and further investigation is on.
