The Gujarat Police’s State Monitoring Cell on Tuesday apprehended two individuals allegedly involved in the illegal trade of mephedrone drug near the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Ahmedabad. The contraband seized is valued at over ₹5.50 lakh.
Acting on a tip-off from a reliable source, police officials conducted a surveillance operation on the Shivranjani–IIM route. During which officers from the SMC intercepted a CNG auto-rickshaw suspected of transporting narcotics.
The interception was done near the Matangi Apartment lane, close to the New IIM wall, and Himmatlal Park BRTS bus stand and the two suspects were apprehended.
The accused were identified as Shahnawaz Khan alias Anda, son of Imam Khan Pathan, who was found driving the auto, while Matin Shaikh alias Khalu, son of Mehbub Shaikh, was seated in the back. The search of the vehicle revealed 55 grams and 0.030 millilitres of mephedrone worth ₹5.50 lakh, a mobile phone, ₹9,000 in cash, and the CNG auto-rickshaw were seized, totalling a seizure valued at ₹6,60,600.
