Two arrested in robbery-cum-murder of elderly woman in Kubernagar

The Sardarnagar police arrested two persons in connection with the robbery and murder of a 65-year-old woman in the Kubernagar area of Ahmedabad earlier this month.
According to the police, the crime took place between the night of March 3 and the early hours of March 4, when unidentified persons allegedly broke into the house of Bharatiben Rasikbhai Bajrang at Free Colony in Chharanagar, near Shankar Bhagwan Temple.
Police said the accused entered the residence with the intention of robbery. They allegedly tied the hands and feet of the victim before killing her and fleeing with valuables from the house.
A gold chain and earrings weighing around one-and-a-half tolas and cash amounting to approximately ₹2.5 lakh were stolen, police said.
The victim’s relative, Hitendrabhai Rasikbhai Bajrang, a lawyer residing in Kubernagar, filed a complaint under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, including sections related to robbery and murder.
Senior officers of the Ahmedabad City Police formed multiple teams to investigate the case. Police officials said the investigation involved the analysis of CCTV footage from around the crime scene and technical examination of mobile phone data.
During the probe, investigators identified suspects believed to have links to Uttar Pradesh. Based on the technical analysis and human intelligence inputs, two teams were dispatched to track their movements.
Police said the first accused, Salman alias Lalla, 26, originally from Agra in Uttar Pradesh and currently residing in Bhiwadi in Rajasthan, was apprehended and brought to Ahmedabad, where he was formally arrested in the case in the early hours of March 11.
The second accused, Sonusingh Atishsingh Sikarwar, 20, originally from Fatehabad district of Uttar Pradesh and presently staying in the Chharanagar area of Kubernagar, was detained later the same day near Ranasan Bridge under the jurisdiction of Naroda police.
According to police officials, Salman has a prior criminal record in Uttar Pradesh, including cases related to murder, attempt to murder, theft and offences under the Arms Act registered at Itmad-ud-Daulah police station in Agra.
Police said a yellow metal earring believed to be part of the stolen jewellery was recovered from the first accused, while ₹4,522 in cash was recovered from the second accused.
