Two arrested for stealing diesel from Airport Authority fuel tanker in Ahmedabad

The Local Crime Branch (LCB), Zone-4 of Ahmedabad City Police, has arrested two persons for allegedly stealing diesel from a fuel tanker belonging to the Airport Authority of India near Hansol, in the Airport Police Station area, police officials said on Thursday.

Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Police Sub-Inspector S M Patel of LCB Zone-4, along with other staff members, conducted a patrol operation near Ranmukteshwar, Hansol, where the accused were caught red-handed while siphoning diesel from a fuel tanker parked in a public place, police said.

The arrested accused have been identified as:

 Bharatbhai Rameshbhai Patni (34), resident of Bapunagar, Ahmedabad

 Kalpeshkumar Jayantibhai Patni (32), resident Shahibaug, Ahmedabad

Police said both the accused are being further questioned in connection with the case.

Seizure and legal action

During the operation, the police seized a diesel tanker, a Mahindra XUV vehicle, two mobile phones, one drum filled with diesel and two empty drums. The total value of the seized property, including the stolen diesel, has been estimated at ₹8.11 lakh, officials said.

A case has been registered at Airport Police Station under BNS Sections. Further investigation is underway to determine whether the accused were involved in similar thefts in the past. 

Police officials said the drive against fuel theft and other property-related offences would continue across Ahmedabad city.
