An 18-year-old Class 12 student of Tulip International School, Bopal, died in a tragic road accident on Thursday morning after a speeding container truck rammed into his scooter near Shilaj Circle on the S P Ring Road in Ahmedabad.

The truck driver allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled the spot on foot.

The deceased has been identified as Tanay Patel, a resident of Panchamrut Bungalows in Sola. According to the FIR filed at N Division Traffic Police Station, Tanay was riding his Activa scooter towards school around 7.15 am, when a container truck hit his vehicle from behind, reportedly at high speed.

The impact caused him to lose control and fall. Preliminary reports suggest that Tanay’s head was crushed under the truck’s rear wheels, resulting in instant death. Paramedics from the 108 emergency service, who arrived shortly after, declared him dead on the spot.

The FIR was registered based on a complaint by Tanay’s father, Amitbhai Chandrakant Patel (47). He told the police that he had dropped his son off earlier that morning and was later informed of the accident by a caller from an unknown number.

Eyewitnesses at the scene alleged that the truck driver was speeding and driving recklessly, and after the crash, escaped from the Shilaj Bridge area.

Police officials said that Inspector P A Marwada is leading the investigation. CCTV footage from cameras installed in the surrounding areas is being analysed to identify the accused driver and piece together the sequence of events.

The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for causing death by rash and negligent driving. The body was later shifted to the hospital for a post-mortem examination.
