The Gandhinagar Metro achieved a milestone as the trial run from the Secretariat to Mahatma Mandir was successfully conducted. Authorities confirmed that regular passenger services on this extended stretch are expected to commence from the start of the New Year, once mandatory safety approvals are secured.

The Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro Rail Project, a long-awaited urban transport initiative, has been progressing in stages over the years. Initially, services were launched up to Sector-1, and later extended via Road No 4 and Road No 6 to the Secretariat. With this latest trial run, the project is now in its final phase, extending the corridor along Road No 5 to Mahatma Mandir, the last terminal stop of the route.

The newly completed section covers five stations, Akshardham, Old Secretariat, Sector-16, Sector-24, and Mahatma Mandir. During the trial run on Dussehra, metro trains successfully passed through all five stations, signaling that the infrastructure is ready for operational use.

Once fully operational, Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro will cover a total of 68 kilometers, connecting 53 stations across the route.

Following the successful trial run, metro officials will submit necessary documents to the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) for final approvals. If clearances are granted on schedule, authorities expect that the public launch of metro services up to Mahatma Mandir will take place at the beginning of the New Year.
