Travellers in distress after ₹100-cr Valsad stretch of Ahmedabad-Mumbai highway washed away
₹100 cr road stretch built by Gurugram-based agency washed away in two years
With monsoon setting in, roads are riddled with potholes, exposing the lack of maintenance and the alleged corruption of the authorities.
On National Highway No 48 from Valsad's Vaghaldhara to Umargam, vehicles are finding it difficult to manoeuvre due to the massive potholes following the rains.
The rainwater-filled potholes have resulted in accidents and tyre bursts.
The central government had awarded the over ₹100-crore contract to maintain the 130-kilometre highway stretch from Surat’s Palsana to Umargam (Maharashtra border) to Gurugram-based Sky Lark agency two years ago.
Repairs are underway, but the continuous rain is causing further deterioration of the roads. The service road is under two to three feet of water despite drainage lines being laid before the monsoon.
Drivers are forced to navigate through these flooded roads, risking their lives.
