Tragedy at Sabarmati Riverfront: Mother jumps in river with toddler, both die

Ahmedabad witnessed a heart-wrenching incident at the Sabarmati Riverfront on the evening of August 15. A woman, carrying her two-year-old daughter, jumped into the river, leaving behind scenes that shook onlookers.

Eyewitnesses recall the distressing sight — while the mother drowned, her toddler clung onto her lifeless body, struggling to survive. The heartbreaking visuals, captured on camera, have since gone viral on social media.

According to reports, the incident took place around 6 pm at the Usmanpura stretch of the Riverfront.

Rescue teams, along with local people and police, rushed to the spot and managed to pull out both mother and child. The woman, however, could not be saved.

The little girl was rescued alive but had inhaled a large amount of water. Despite immediate medical care, she succumbed later in the night in hospital.

Locals said the woman had arrived at the Riverfront with her daughter, giving no hint of the tragedy that would unfold.
