Traffic police crackdown on illegally parked luxury buses in Memnagar

Luxury bus operators have been parking illegally on the stretch from Vivekanand Circle to the Divyapath School road in Memnagar, up to the AEC bridge.
On Monday, the A Division Traffic Police launched a crackdown against such violations. The illegally parked luxury buses were removed from the road. In several cases of indiscriminate parking, on-the-spot fines of up to ₹1,000 were imposed.
The traffic cops scoured the Memnagar area, from Vivekanand Circle to Divyapath High School road and up to the AEC bridge, to ensure that luxury buses and heavy vehicles were not being parked illegally.
The Commissioner of Police, Ahmedabad has issued a notification prohibiting the entry of luxury buses and heavy vehicles into the city between 8 am and 10 pm, which has also been upheld by the Supreme Court. Private bus operators had earlier challenged this order in the Gujarat High Court, where both the single-judge bench and later the division bench dismissed their petitions.
The operators then approached the Supreme Court, but their petition was also rejected, and no relief was granted. The SC confirmed that the commissioner’s order restricting the entry of luxury buses into the city during the specified hours is lawful and valid.
