Traffic Brigade personnel in Gujarat on strike demanding salary hike
Updated: Oct 7th, 2024
The Traffic Brigade (TRB) Force in Gujarat went on strike today, demanding a salary hike that the government has previously denied. TRB officers, who currently earn ₹300 per day, are now demanding an increase of ₹500 per day.
TRB officers stated that they have been working with the same wage for a long time, despite their crucial role in maintaining traffic flow and preventing congestion. Despite working tirelessly in all weather conditions, they have not been compensated fairly. Reportedly, before the elections, there were promises of a salary hike, but no such announcement has been made so far.
As per information, nearly 6,000 TRB officers across Gujarat are participating in the strike, with 1,600 of them from Ahmedabad.
This morning in Ahmedabad, areas such as Gandhi Ashram Road, RTO, and Vadaj reportedly experienced heavy traffic congestion due to the absence of TRB officials at traffic booths.
The strike comes at a time when the Navratri festival is ongoing leading to increased traffic on the roads. The question remains: how long will the ‘Khelaiyas’ have to wait today in traffic congestion to play garba, and will the government agree to the salary hike demands?
