A trader from Gota, Ahmedabad lost ₹6.08 lakh in cash and his mobile phone after an unknown thief allegedly smashed the window of his Hyundai Alcazar and stole a bag kept inside the vehicle on a public road. An FIR has been registered at Sola High Court Police Station on Sunday, and police have begun an investigation.

According to the complaint filed by Maulik Panchal (49), a trader and resident of Vande Mataram Township near Gota, the incident took place on 10 November, between 5.30 pm and 5.45 pm, when he had briefly parked his car near Vishweshwar Mahadev Mandir, opposite Vishwas City-3, to purchase medicines for his ailing mother.

Maulik informed police that earlier that afternoon, he had visited several business associates across the city to collect payments. He was also carrying ₹50,000 in cash from previous transactions, bringing the total amount in his possession to ₹6.08 lakh. All the money, along with his Samsung Galaxy A52 mobile phone, was kept in a black bag placed on the seat beside the driver.

Maulik told police that upon returning from the medical shop at around 5.45 pm, he found the front door window of the driver's side smashed and the black bag missing. The thief, police believe, broke open the glass, causing damage worth ₹5,000, before stealing the bag and fleeing the spot.

The complainant immediately alerted the police, who reached the location and took preliminary statements. Crime scene examination and CCTV analysis in the vicinity have been initiated.

The investigation is ongoing at Sola High Court Police Station.
