Toxic syrup hoarder sentenced to jail in Jamkhambhaliya
In yet another toxic syrup scandal, the police seized a total of 3,900 syrup bottles worth ₹5.81 lakh from Bhadthar village in Jamkhambhaliya taluka of Devbhumi Dwarka in February 2024.
The accused and owner of the shop, Kana alias Parbat Keshariya (24), appeared today in court, where he was awarded a term in jail. The other four accused are on the run.
It was revealed that these toxic syrup bottles were manufactured by Vadodara’s Shree Ayurvedic Health Care.
The syrup network
At the time of the raid, a total of 250 bottles of Kalmeghasav- Asava Arishta syrup worth ₹37,250 were suspected to be intoxicants and seized for investigation purposes.
Keshariya admitted that he had taken these bottles from Naran Jam (46), a resident of the Milan Char Road area of Khambhalia.
A quantity of 3,650 bottles worth ₹5,43,850 was recovered, and actions were taken regarding this.
It was revealed that Jam had taken this quantity of syrup from the owner of Mittal Cosmetic and Pharmacy, Lagdhirsinh Jadeja, a resident of Bhavnagar, to sell it.
Khambhalia police station noted this matter as well.
Nitin Kotwani, owner of Shree Ayurvedic Health Care, reportedly did not have any licence to manufacture the syrup.
The Khambhalia police station registered a case against manufacturers of syrup under the respective articles.
