Toxic air: AQI touches 259 in pockets of Ahmedabad as pollution levels spike

Air quality in Ahmedabad continues to deteriorate, with several areas reporting ‘poor’ AQI levels on Thursday. The city’s average AQI stood at 177, significantly above the safe range, while multiple monitoring stations recorded alarming figures.

Rakhial reported an AQI of 259, while Ghatlodia (Chandkheda) touched 204 and Gyaspur at 250. The airport area recorded an AQI of 249 and Bopal 199.

Only Satellite remained in the moderate category with an AQI of 134. In Gujarat, Surat topped the charts with an AQI of 277.

As per pollution norms, AQI between 201–300 falls under ‘poor’, 301–400 under ‘very poor’ and 401–500 under the ‘severe’ category.
