Tight security arrangements have been put in place ahead of the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the city. The Riverfront West road will remain closed to all types of vehicular traffic from 7 am to 12 noon due to security reasons.

The restrictions have been imposed as the prime minister and the German Chancellor are scheduled to attend the International Kite Festival at the Sabarmati Riverfront on January 12.

Due to the road closure, traffic has been diverted to Ashram Road and other adjoining routes. The Riverfront West stretch from Vadaj crematorium to Chandranagar Bridge will remain closed during the specified hours. Commuters have been advised to use alternate routes.

To manage traffic congestion, additional traffic police personnel have been deployed on Ashram Road. Meanwhile, security has been significantly tightened in and around the kite festival venue. Agencies including the SPG, Crime Branch, ATS and local police have been deployed in large numbers.

The Special Operations Group (SOG) has also intensified surveillance in the riverfront area and nearby localities. Buildings directly overlooking the festival venue are being closely monitored, with local police assigned specific responsibilities.

In addition, separate SOG teams are conducting checks at various hotels across the city as part of the overall security arrangements.

Authorities have appealed to citizens to cooperate with security agencies and follow traffic advisories during the Prime Minister’s visit.
