A readymade garment shop owner in Chandlodia has filed a police complaint after three unidentified women allegedly stole five pairs of Punjabi dresses for women worth around ₹15,000 by repeatedly misusing the trial room to conceal the garments.
Krunal Rajeshbhai Mohanlal, owner of Sanvi boutique at Shop No. 8, Satva Elegance Complex near Silver Star Crossroads, in his complaint states that the incident occurred on Tuesday evening when the trio visited the store under the pretext of shopping.
Krunal, a resident of Vasant Society in Usmanpura, told the Sola High Court Police that he opened his shop around 11 am as part of his routine, with staff present on duty. Around 5 pm, three women entered the showroom and asked to see Punjabi dress materials. The staff assisted them, and the women took turns entering the trial room.
Modus operandi: Two garments taken in, one returned
The FIR notes that the women repeatedly selected clothes, carried them into the trial room, and returned only one dress each time.
When the shop was opened the next morning, staff observed that five Punjabi dresses were missing from the inventory. Krunal then checked the CCTV footage, which revealed that the trio had entered the trial room with two pairs of dresses at a time, but returned only one pair to the staff.
Realising that the women had allegedly concealed the other garments and left the store without paying, Krunal approached the police to lodge a formal complaint.
CCTV footage submitted, police begin probe
The stolen items were collectively valued at ₹15,000, and the complainant has handed over the CCTV footage to assist investigators. The FIR states that the theft appears to have been carried out with coordination among the three women.
Sola High Court police have registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS relating to theft and have detained all three suspects in the matter.
K.B Bhukan, police inspector of Sola High Court Police Station state that, "neighbouring shops and cameras in the complex were examined and the trio have been detained. Further interrogation is on."
We are also trying to determine whether the trio had visited other outlets before or after the theft.
