Three women govt officials arrested in water supply work scam in Gujarat

Three women government officials  were arrested on Tuesday in connection with a ₹12 crore water contract scam in Navsari district. The scam involved the submission of fake bills by contractors, resulting in a substantial loss to the government.

On July 17, a complaint was registered against 14 accused, which included 5 contractors and 9 government officials, for creating fraudulent bills of the water supply work which is yet to begin.

Ten arrests have already been made in the case.

The accused government officials had asked the contractors to create fake bills of the work and got approval from the authorities. Using the bills, the officials duped the government of ₹9 crore.

The scam came to light when the state vigilance team started surveillance on the locations upon receiving the complaint that no work had been done.

Upon receiving the government’s complaint, the case was transferred to the Crime Investigation Department (CID), which has arrested a total of 13 persons, including 10 who were arrested earlier.
