Fear grips Ahmedabad as law and order in the city was disturbed as three murders took place across the city in a span of a mere 12 hours.
A series of murders were reported from three different corners, the first being in Usmanpura, then in Shahpur, and in Vatva. Police are probing into all the three cases.
Sabarmati Riverfront murder
As per reports, Smit Gohil, a resident of Ghatlodiya, near Chandlodiya Railway Station, was shot dead at the Usmanpura riverfront area around 10 p.m. on Oct 30.
Gohil informed his family in the evening of Oct 30 that he would soon be home.
However, he did not return home at night. At around 8 a.m. the next day, the Asarwa police informed Gohil’s family about his tragic death.
Gohil worked as a mason. He had left the house on Oct 30 to meet a friend of his.
According to a preliminary investigation, the victim went to the western part of the Riverfront to meet someone, where he was shot from a very close distance. So far, the murder seems to be due to personal reasons. The Ahmedabad crime branch has started the investigation, interviewing close friends and other acquaintances.
Police say that the victim was shot straight into the left side of the chest from a very close distance with a 7.56-bore cartridge. The accused is anticipated to be someone who knows his weapons well.
Riverfront West police inspector (PI) MV Patel and team are currently probing the case.
Deadly business rivalry
