The accused trio is on a three-day remand by the court.

Gujarat police have set off for Ranchi to catch the main orchestrator of the case, Ujjawal Moorarka. Moorarka, accompanied by an individual named Sahil, prepared a set-up for cannabis in the flat.

Later, Moorarka went to Ranchi and used to look after the property through a CCTV camera.

Ahmedabad’s Sarkhej police arrested three for cultivating cannabis (ganja or marijuana) using a hydroponic technique in residential flats near Sardar Patel Road on Sept 3.

The police seized almost 100 pots in which cannabis was being cultivated. The latest primary investigation reveals that a brother of one of the accused arranged the set-up of hydroponic cannabis in two flats.

Unfolding the cannabis diaries

The neighbours and other residents of the building suspected dubious activities going on on the fifteenth floor since individuals from different backgrounds were seen receiving regular parcel packages in the flats.

Following the suspicion, police raided flat numbers 1501 and 1502 on the 15th floor of Orchid Legacy residential apartments.

The police interrogated two men and one woman in the flat after seeing huge cultivations of plants in pots using hydroponic technique. Initially, the individuals claimed that the plants were medicinal.

Later, a gardening expert called by the police revealed that they were cultivating cannabis using hydroponic farming method, which is the technique of growing plants using a water-based nutrient solution rather than soil.

Police inspector Vikramsinh Chavda and his team got into action and arrested the three accused- Ravi, Viren, and Ritika.

As per sources, with the help of Ravi’s younger brother, Ujjawal, who is expert in urban farming, they wanted to process and supply cannabis in Gujarat and other states.

Ujjawal prepared a set-up offering ideal temperatures in the flat and sowed cannabis seeds, which he sourced from Jharkhand.

What did the cops say?

The police said that the accused paid ₹35,000 rent for each flat. They also stated that hydroponic cannabis is more effective than the land cultivated one, which is why it is also sold at higher costs.

A top official said that Ravi is a chartered accountant (CA) and has worked for various firms in Ahmedabad since 2013.

Ujjawal and Ravi, the two brothers, lived in Orchid Legacy with their family while they employed Viren and Ritika to look after the plants.

What is hydroponic cannabis?

Hydroponic cannabis is cannabis that is cultivated using the hydroponic method of farming, which means that necessary nutrients are added to the water in which the plants grow without soil.

It takes almost three months to grow the cannabis plant fully using this method. However, the seized plants were 45-days old.
