Three consultants from Ahmedabad receive I-T notices for filing false returns

In a surprise move, Income Tax officials raided chartered accountants, tax return preparers and tax consultants in Ahmedabad who aided taxpayers in uploading incorrect information in the income tax return and then dishonestly obtaining tax exemption or refund and defrauding the department, reports suggest.
I-T notices were served to Kaushal Chandrakant Jhala, Bhavik Khemchand Shah, and Darshan Dinesh Patel from Ahmedabad. All returns filed by them will be checked by the department. Legal action is also being initiated against them for their complicity in tax evasion.
Raids are also underway in Rajkot, Vadodara, and Surat in Gujarat. Income Tax officials have raided the offices of one M M Pathan, who has offices in both Modasa and Lunawada.
These consultants have filed the returns of taxpayers trying to evade tax by deducting insurance premiums from the returns.
The department has also revealed in the investigation that they have made bogus claims of Tax Deduction at Source (TDS).
