Sabarmati police have registered a case against three men for allegedly abusing a Scheduled Caste man with casteist slurs, assaulting him with wooden sticks and vandalising his shop, causing damages estimated at ₹15,000.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), Kamleshbhai Kantibhai Parmar, a 29-year-old driver residing near Khodiyarnagar Jogni Mata Temple in Chandkheda, stated that the incident occurred around 5 pm on September 22 near the ONGC workshop in Sabarmati.

Parmar told police he had gone to meet his uncle at Gandhivas and later parked his Activa scooter near his shop. He noticed three acquaintances identified as Vishal Thakor, Navghan Devipujak and a man known only as Vinay—playing a Ludo game on their mobile phones and shouting. When he requested them to lower their voices, the trio allegedly began hurling abuses.

The complaint states that Thakor used caste-related slurs, publicly humiliating Parmar, and threatened to kill him. Thakor and Devipujak then fetched wooden sticks from their car parked nearby and allegedly struck Parmar. Vinay also allegedly joined in, kicking and hitting him with a stick.

During the assault, Thakor allegedly struck Parmar’s right wrist with a stick, fracturing it. Parmar further alleged that the accused vandalised his small shop, causing a loss of around ₹15,000.

Neighbours alerted emergency services, and an 108 ambulance took Parmar to Asarwa Civil Hospital, where doctors confirmed a fracture in his right wrist.

Based on his complaint, Sabarmati police have registered offences under Sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, as well as relevant provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Police said statements of witnesses, including Parmar’s uncle Sureshbhai and other locals, have been recorded, and further investigation is underway. The three accused are absconding right now, and search for them is on.
