Third round of RTE admissions starts today, 7,022 seats remain vacant across Gujarat
The Gujarat government has started the third round of admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act 7,022 seats are still vacant in private schools across the state. Eligible parents can participate in the schools from June 6-8.
The Directorate of Primary Education has informed more than 1.02 lakh eligible parents through SMS about the third round. Under the RTE Act, 25% of seats in Standard 1 of private schools are reserved for children from economically weaker and disadvantaged sections of society.
This year, more than 1.82 lakh applications submitted by parents were approved for admission against 83,687 seats available in 9,770 private schools across Gujarat.
Due to the large number of applicants, admissions are being conducted through an online common admission process. In the first round of admissions, 77,925 children were allotted seats in different private schools.
A total of 5,814 seats were allotted in the second round. Out of these, admissions of 4,244 children were successfully confirmed by parents. Despite these efforts, 7,022 seats are still vacant across the state.
According to official data, the highest number of vacant seats are in English-medium schools. Out of the total vacant seats, 3,911 are in English-medium schools, 1,358 in Gujarati-medium schools, 1,578 in Hindi-medium schools, and 175 seats are in schools of other mediums.
In Ahmedabad rural, 1,899 admissions have been confirmed out of 2,091 seats allotted. In Ahmedabad city, 13,660 admissions have been confirmed out of 14,579 allotted seats.
Statewide, admissions have been confirmed for 77,425 children out of the total 83,687 seats available under the RTE admission process this year.
