Thieves target passengers amid Diwali rush at Kalupur railway station, woman loses jewellery worth ₹3 lakh

With festive crowds surging at railway stations ahead of Diwali, theft incidents have seen a sharp rise. At Kalupur railway station, a woman from Naroda was robbed of a purse containing jewellery and cash worth over ₹3 lakh while boarding a train.
According to police, the victim, identified as 58-year-old Manjudevi Rajput, a resident of Bhagyalaxmi Society on Nikol Road, was travelling with her family to Ganjipur on October 15. As she was preparing to board the train, an unidentified person took advantage of the crowd and stole her purse.
The stolen items included gold ornaments, a mobile phone, and ₹2,500 in cash, valued in total at ₹3,03,700. Kalupur Railway Police have registered a theft case and begun an investigation, reviewing CCTV footage from the station to identify the suspect.
Authorities have noted an increase in such thefts at railway stations and onboard trains during the festive season. Despite multiple complaints, police have struggled to apprehend the culprits, many of whom reportedly target passengers from other states.
