Gujarat’s Influence Grows in BJP National Team, Former Congress Leader Gets Key Role

The BJP’s latest national organisational reshuffle has strengthened Gujarat’s presence in the party hierarchy, with state leaders securing several important positions in the new team announced by national president Nitin Nabin.

The appointments have taken immediate effect and place Gujarat leaders in both senior and organisational roles at the national level. The reshuffle has also drawn attention for assigning a national responsibility to a leader who had crossed over to the BJP from the Congress.

Gujarat Secures Key Positions

Varshaben Narendrabhai Doshi has been appointed as a national vice president, making her one of the senior-most faces from Gujarat in the BJP’s national structure.

Jagdish Ishwarbhai Patel and Rohan Gupta have been named national secretaries, giving Gujarat representation in the party’s organisational framework beyond the top leadership level.

Hemang Joshi has also been entrusted with a major responsibility as president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, the BJP’s youth wing.

The appointments are being viewed within the party as recognition of Gujarat’s continued political importance and organisational strength.

Surprise Role for Rohan Gupta

Among the appointments, Rohan Gupta’s elevation has attracted particular attention.

Gupta joined the BJP after ending his long association with the Congress, where he had served as a national spokesperson and was considered one of the party’s prominent faces from Gujarat.

His appointment as a national secretary signals the BJP leadership’s willingness to entrust significant organisational responsibilities to leaders who have recently joined the party from rival political formations.

Smriti Irani Returns to Organisational Role

Former Union minister Smriti Irani has returned to the BJP’s central organisation as one of the party’s eight national general secretaries.

Her appointment marks a significant comeback to the organisational structure following her defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Amethi.

Irani will work alongside senior leaders including Vinod Tawde, Sunil Bansal, Biplab Kumar Deb, Satish Poonia, Gajendra Patel, Harish Dwivedi and Sanjay Bhatia.

Experienced Leaders Retained

Former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia has retained her position as a national vice president. Ram Madhav has also returned to the national team as a vice president, while Odisha leader Baijayant Panda continues in the same role.

The vice-presidential team includes several senior leaders from different regions, reflecting the party’s effort to balance experience, regional representation and organisational reach.

Piyush Goyal has been appointed national treasurer, while B.L. Santhosh continues as national general secretary (organisation). Shivprakash and Saudan Singh have been named joint general secretaries (organisation).

Focus on Future Electoral Battles

The reshuffle comes as the BJP prepares for a series of electoral challenges, including the next Uttar Pradesh Assembly election.

Party insiders view the new team as a blend of experienced administrators, organisational managers, youth representatives and women leaders. Gujarat’s expanded representation in the national structure is expected to strengthen the state’s voice in organisational and strategic decision-making within the party.
