Temple, four dargahs demolished in Sarkhej during NHAI drive amid police deployment

In a high-security operation carried out on Wednesday, authorities accompanied by a police convoy, launched a demolition drive targeting religious structures encroaching on government land in the Sarkhej area of Ahmedabad. The drive, undertaken in coordination with the National Highways Authority of India, led to the razing of one temple and four dargahs.
The action was part of an ongoing effort to clear illegal constructions along key highway stretches, officials said. The structures were reportedly obstructing expansion work on the Sarkhej section of the highway.
Heavy police presence was deployed at the site to maintain law and order and prevent any potential unrest during the demolition. The operation began early in the morning and continued for several hours under the supervision of civic and highway department officials.
While the move triggered some local opposition, the authorities stated that due notice had been given and the action was taken as per legal provisions.
