The Ahmedabad Police have registered a case against an 18-year-old youth for allegedly selling ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final tickets at inflated prices near the Narendra Modi Stadium in Chandkheda ahead of the India–New Zealand title clash scheduled on March 8.

According to the FIR lodged by the Local Crime Branch (LCB), the accused, identified as Vansh Hiralkumar Shah, a resident of Vasna area, was caught during a late-night raid outside Gate No. 1 of the Narendra Modi Stadium on March 6.

Police said the operation was conducted following instructions from senior officers to curb black marketing of match tickets around the stadium premises before the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

As per the complaint filed by police constable Raunakkumar Jayarambhai, attached to LCB Zone-2, the police team was on patrol near Chandkheda Metro Station at around 10.30 pm when they received a tip-off from a confidential informant. The information suggested that a man wearing a black T-shirt and white jeans was selling tickets for the India–New Zealand final at prices higher than the official rate.

Acting on the information, the police team, proceeded towards the stadium and located the suspect standing near Gate No. 1. One of the officers approached the youth posing as a customer and asked for tickets for the final match.

During the conversation, the accused allegedly offered two match tickets for ₹22,000, significantly higher than the printed price. When asked to show the tickets, he produced them, after which the police team revealed their identity and detained him.

A search conducted led to the recovery of two tickets for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final scheduled for March 8 at 7 pm at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The tickets had an official printed price of ₹2,000 each, police said.

When questioned, the accused allegedly failed to produce any authorisation or permit to sell the tickets. Police then seized the tickets.

Following the raid, the police registered a case under Sections of the Gujarat Police Act, which relate to illegal sale of tickets and unauthorised trading in public places.

Officials said the accused was served a notice and allowed to leave after preliminary action, while the seized tickets have been taken into custody for further investigation.
