Teen caught betting on IPL match using phone in Ahmedabad

A 17-year-old boy was apprehended by Bodakdev police in the early hours of Thursday for allegedly engaging in online gambling on an Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket match using a phone. The minor was caught red-handed outside a restaurant in Ahmedabad’s Rajpath-Rangoli Road area, where he was placing bets through two gambling websites.
The incident took place during a routine night patrol around 1 am. Acting on a tip-off, a police team reached the vicinity of Pep House Restaurant in the Patron Building. There, they found the boy watching the live Tata IPL cricket match on his phone and placing bets using two illegal betting websites, betfalsh247.com and mrm777.com.
The boy, identified as Rahul (name changed), a native of Panj village in Kalol taluka of Gandhinagar district, was allegedly using two online identities to gamble on the outcome of the ongoing match.
The mobile phone used in betting was seized as evidence. Following the seizure, Patel was booked under Section 12(a) of the Gujarat Gambling Act. As the accused is a minor, appropriate legal procedures involving the Juvenile Justice Board will be followed. During the investigation, no other accomplices were found at the scene of the crime.
