Teacher suspended after student alleges molestation at CN Vidyavihar campus in Ahmedabad, inquiry on

A teacher at a PTC (D.El.Ed – Diploma in Elementary Education) college within the CN Vidyavihar campus in Ahmedabad’s Ambawadi area has been suspended following allegations of molestation by a female student. The college management said it acted after receiving a written complaint and has initiated an internal inquiry.

Allegation raised after four days

According to the student’s complaint, the alleged incident took place on the March 20 during a preliminary examination, when the teacher “held her hand and behaved inappropriately”. The student did not report the incident at the time.

The issue was raised on March 24 during an inspection visit by a female professor from the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), when students were invited to share concerns.

Written complaint triggers action

Campus director and advisory committee member Dr Vaishali Shah said the student initially reported the matter verbally and was asked to submit a written complaint.

Dr Shah said that the student did not initially provide a written complaint. The following day was a holiday. After she submitted the complaint, the teacher was suspended, she also said, adding that the institution had not faced such an allegation in its over 100-year history.

Internal complaints committee to probe case

The institution has referred the matter to its Vishakha Committee (Internal Complaints Committee), which will conduct an inquiry and take action as per rules.

DEO seeks explanation

The District Education Officer (DEO) has issued a notice to the college, seeking an explanation regarding the incident and the handling of the complaint.

Institution profile and campus details

The government-aided PTC college has been operational for several years and transitioned to co-education three years ago; it previously admitted only male students.

The complainant, a student from a village in Ahmedabad district, resides in the campus hostel. Around 110 students are currently enrolled in the PTC college.

The CN Vidyavihar campus houses multiple institutions, including an education college, a fine arts college, and a school from Class 1 to 12. Hostel facilities are available for female students from Class 9 through college, with separate accommodation wings.

Accused teacher’s tenure

According to the campus director, the accused teacher has been working at the college for more than 20 years. The student had not informed the hostel warden, principal, or director about the incident prior to raising it during the inspection visit.
